Gateway II: Democrat paints picture of done deal

Excerpts from the Daily Democrat article "Woodland's Gateway IIinches [sic] into Woodland:"

Following the presentation of the final EIR to the City Council, city staff will then have to begin jumping through the legal hoops associated with officially annexing the 154 acres into the City of Woodland.

"The city and county will need to develop some kind of tax sharing agreement, and then go to LAFCO to submit and application for annexation," Norris said.

LAFCO, or the Local Agency Formation Commission, is an independent agency which deals with government organizational issues such as city annexations and boundary changes.

Assuming things continue on as planned, Norris estimated it could be as soon as six months before actual construction begins on Gateway II, but noted that the final decision would rest with the developers themselves.

Read it before they pull it.

I guess according to Norris, the only way to voice an opinion is to show up to a council or planning meeting and filling out a card. What a joke.

The caption to the picture in the paper version of this article in the DD is "Speak now to shape how this gets filled." It would be nice if the question was If not How. That would take a ballot measure that would allow the citizens to vote on any new developments. Those types of measures are in effect in other municipalities. But that might be naive to think we could get that on the ballot and passed in Woodland.

And even as to the How, the how is already very narrowly defined. No one is asking to build a solar farm or something with a more sustainable impact than an auto mall. Why does Woodland need to be just another town with a huge auto mall?

And maybe no one goes to the Planning Commission meetings because they feel that the decisions have already been made

Only goes to Gateway I as a last resort

Your questions or concerns will be answered in the final EIR.

Is this GWII why the city is asking for a sales tax increase, to pay for the infrastructure for Petrovich and then let him out of his developer fees?

This is not what I had in mind when I moved to Woodland. To much development. To much asphalt and cement. Might as well have moved to Natomas.

Finish Gateway I first. If Gateway I can't be finished for lack of business expansion, why even propose to build another center? I'm still waiting for the promised restaurants unique to our area.
