Sheriff's investigation refutes allegations brought up by Reynoso's group
From Yolo County, Sheriff:
In February 2010, several local media outlets reported on the activities of a non-governmental group known as “Independent Civil Rights Commission” [led by former justice Cruz Reynoso], which held hearings in Woodland regarding allegations of improper conduct during the service of a search warrant.
Santiago Ochoa, Griselda Rodriquez, and their daughter spoke to the group, making several allegations of misconduct by Sheriff’s Department personnel, regarding a search warrant that was served at their residence eight months prior, in June of 2009.

I do not trust the Sheriff investigation of their own personnel. he FBI or State A G need to look into this matter.
Reynoso's self-proclaimed "Independent Civil Rights Commission” is a sham. In fact, there is little regard to civil rights during these meetings. "Testimonies" are not given under oath and are not subject to cross examination as in legal proceedings. The basic protections under law (of the deputies AND the witnesses) are ignored... the process is invalid and Reynoso should know better.
Dino,
I dont think the Civil rights commission is a sham. They are not saying they are going to end civil rights violations or arrest people. The commission is only analyzing.
Look, they cant cross examine. That would be the role of the District Attorney. To cross examine the people, but ALSO the officers. No one has ever cross examined the officers.
You do know they really have no legal authority. They are not saying they do.
Lets get the federal government involved. As an American, I have faith in them.

1) I never said, or implied, the group is trying to end civil rights violations
2) DA's are not the only people who cross examine - crossing witnesses by anyone could neuter "testimony"
3) I know they have no legal authority - that's basically what I implied
The group is making every pretense to appear legitimate. What's up with having a stenographer? Don't you think a simple camcorder would do?
It's a show. Reynoso is peacocking. He could have set a better example for those people if he showed them how to proceed with the complaint process.
He chose to make this a public forum when he could have gotten the same results by privately investigating the arrest(s). I'm not saying that there is, or is not, a need for further investigation.
And why is being an American inherent to having faith in the federal government? I don't get that at all.
Dino!
Great point.
Peacocking at it's best.
Make it look official and make it look like a courtroom and the masses will believe it.
This is consumption for anger fueled minorities.
Reynoso is setting the tone by trying to basically pass off folks telling their stories...with not regard for being under oath and free of the laws of perjury etc... and little need of evidence.
It's true in Reynoso's world because someone put on their Church clothes and said so and there was a stenographer there so it must be official.
What a joke.
And anyone that thinks those cops weren't worked over the coals for a fatal shooting know nothing about a cops job.
annnnnnd...... weren't the cops Latino as well?

Why should that matter? Prieto is latino.
I dont think this is a racial issue, and shouldnt be made one.
Anger fueled minorities. Ummm, okay.
