Scottish Games makes the LA Times

Check it out. (You'll have to scroll down a wee bit.)

This was discovered the Yolo County Visitors Bureau who forwarded it the City of Woodland and the Yolo County Fair.

Wow. I can't believe you can actually turn on a computer and figure out how to find the internet.

How come this event is not promoted as an annual event here in Woodland?

How many years has it been held here?

This 100+ year festival brings people from around the globe to Woodland. Can you immagine what a money maker this event would be if Woodland got behind it?

Where do these visitors to Woodland stay, eat, and play (while not at the Yolo County Fairgrounds) when they are here?

All the years I have lived here, I have not caught any ads for this event. Just the sign at the Fairgrounds.

And, as I think about it, How come Woodland can't get behind other events like the Stroll, and AMGEN tours? Tourism is ALMOST free money to a community. People come here briefly, spend cash and then go home.

Just my 2 1/2 cents. :)

The games have been in Woodland for many years... I can't remember exactly, but I'm thinking about ten.

It's up to the Caledonian Club to run ads, but I know we've posted announcements. The City of Woodland also has banners up and down Main Street.

I agree about trying to get Amgen here... I've tried but it didn't work. I've suggested that the city try to bring them through the downtown... but it is up to the Amgen organizers. You can try to contact them.

Curious George,
You can contact the Sacramento Calidonian Club or Angie Roddan, the Games Manager. Either will be glad to answer all of your questions. saccallie.org or angie@yolocountyfair.net

5:20 PM, thank you for this information. "You can contact the Sacramento Calidonian Club or Angie Roddan, the Games Manager. Either will be glad to answer all of your questions."

and Dino, thank you for these answers, "I agree about trying to get Amgen here... I've tried but it didn't work. I've suggested that the city try to bring them through the downtown... but it is up to the Amgen organizers."

and "It's up to the Caledonian Club to run ads, but I know we've posted announcements."

My rhetorical question is why the City of Woodland, Chamber, the Daily Democrat, Chanel 13 /3 / 8 are not informed until after the event is over?

How can our community capitalize on these and similar events? And why are we NOT doing it already?

The April edition of the Woodland Record will have an announcement about the Games (that will reach close to 10,000 readers, more than three times what DD readers will read in a single issue). Also, there will be a report on something the city has been doing to promote the affiliation with the Caledonian Club.

And I believe within the year, the city will be starting something to coordinate tourism activities for Woodland.

That would be great, Dino. Thank you for keeping us all informed. :)
