Meet Rachel - just call her Rachel - of America's Next Top Model Cycle 13

Skip: What's all the buzz about Rachel in ANTM's Cycle 13?
Art: Rachel is from Woodland. She is one of 14 models competing for the title of America's Next Top Model.
Skip: Cool. When is the premiere?
Art: Surely, Woodlanders will be tuned into CW31 on Wednesday night, September 9, at 8 pm. Hey, check out Rachel at CWTV.com!
Skip: Thanks, but don't call me Shirley.

Anyway, the Q&A seems to be the chosen interview format for the three local daily papers who provided reports on:
1) "Rachel (the show doesn't provide last names)" - Sacramento Bee
2) "Rachel Echelberger" - Davis Enterprise
3) "Rachel Eschelberger" - Dilly Dallycrat
What might cause even more confusion about Rachel's last name is that the Davis Enterprise article is written by a former Doozy Dooliecrat reporter - so who can really know which is correct? To find out, one might go to the Reality TV Games Web site where they posed the question:
What are the last names of the Cycle 13 girls? Contestants guessed that Rachel's last name is "Johnson" (citing the Woodland Journal as its source) and "Relican" ("a BS name that someone made up and put on Wikipedia").
Another discrepancy is Rachel's height, important because this is ANTM's "short cyle" whereby all models are 5' 7" and under. In her ANTM video - found at RealityWanted.com - Rachel states she is 5' 6" - but all other sources, including the ANTM Web site, list her as five-five.
Here are excerpts from the three daily papers –
DD - Big challenge for a small lady:
Woodland High School graduate Rachel Eschelberger, is 18, and 5 feet, 5 inches tall.
It's not your average supermodel height. But for this year's "America's Next Top Model" reality TV show competition, she's just about perfect.
DD: What was your first impression of Tyra Banks?
Rachel: My first impression of Tyra Banks was that she is a kind, beautiful, and very smart woman who has a great head for business.
Enterprise - A local cover girl? Woodland teen lands spot on reality TV show:
Rachel Echelberger, 18, is 5-foot-5. That's not your typical supermodel height.
The show's 13th season premieres at 8 p.m. Wednesday, Sept. 9, on the CW Network. For the first time, only petite women — 5-foot-7 and under — were allowed to try out.
Enterprise: What is Tyra Banks like?
Rachel: Tyra was so amazing. She was just as beautiful in person as in her photos and she has an amazing head for business. I hope to one day be as successful as she is and I hope that I can be just as good of a role model to girls. I want to have a real voice and make a difference in this world.
SacBee - Woodland's next top model?
Rachel (the show doesn't provide last names) is an 18-year-old customer service rep from Woodland.
The show doesn't allow one-on-one interviews with contestants until they either win or are eliminated from the show, so Rachel responded to The Bee's questions via e-mail.
SacBee: Can you tell us about your family? Where did you attend school? Where are you living now?
Rachel: I went to Holy Rosary school (second through eighth grade) then to Woodland High School. I still live in Woodland with my family.

Not to take anything away from this nice young lady, I find the entire premise of the show, and models in general, to be nothing I'm interested in watching.
Why all this attention? Because it's on television? That's an accomplishemnt? And models? People who stand, sit, and walk to advertise products? This is something we should be proud of? I am much more proud of community volunteers, and professions which seek to make our world better. In fact, this is one 'career' where computer animation will soon make it possible to have virtual models to advertise things, rather than people.
So, please, a little less attention to what is really just a glorified game show.
models..meh....
I don't get your handle, but I do get that you totally underestimate the fashion industry. I think it's delusional to think models will be replaced by cartoon characters.
All the attention is because a Woodlander is in the national spotlight. Regardless of your naiveté about fashion - and your underhanded comment "Not to take anything away from this nice young lady" - Rachel will be followed by millions of people across the globe.
And as to your astute observation about it being "game show" (contestants and prizes on television)... duh!
well, I suppose if you want to waste your time watching people try to please Tyra Banks, rather than spend your time doing something useful, go right ahead.

Oh... you suppose other people can watch what they want on TV, huh? Who made you the master of time?
You've already proven you don't know squat about the popularity of the program or the pervasiveness of the fashion industry, so it's no wonder you don't comprehend the local interest generated because a Woodlander is competing in front of a global audience.
I can't wait to see the results of your productivity between 8 and 9 tomorrow night. Post back here and tell us what you did that was so useful.
already know what I'm doing. Writing up a grant request to help underpriveledged teens, and working on helping a non-profit with their newsletter.
Better than TV, and 'fashion'.

I did those things already. That's why I can relax tomorrow night and root for our local girl.
As expected, DD takes down the article with the misspelled name.
My wife made me watch this "program", it was painful to watch. All that ran through my mind is where did I put the key to the handgun trigger lock....it was that bad.
Congrats to Rachel- she's in the top 13! All you detractors, get over yourselves! At least she's doing something that she enjoys and may actually have an opportunity to make a career that will allow her to make a good living. Besides, we all need to have a little fun in our lives. And she's from Woodland, so have a little feeling of pride in your heart and wish her well.
And if it's not your cup of tea, so be it. But you don't have to put her or the show down- it's a harmless piece of entertainment... that some of us watch to lighten our lives up a bit.
