Tunes For Trees: Rock & Roots Music Showcase at the Opera House on Friday

Woodland Tree Foundation Concert at Woodland Opera House

Tunes For Trees: Rock & Roots Music Showcase will be presented by the Woodland Tree Foundation on Friday, June 13th at 7:30 PM at the Woodland Opera House. Founded in 2000, the Woodland Tree Foundation is a non-profit, all-volunteer organization whose mission is to plant and care for trees in and around the City of Woodland and to educate the general public about the value and benefits of trees. WTF volunteers have planted 1,600 trees in Woodland and along State Highway 113 near Woodland.

The fundraiser concert will feature solo artists Thomas Cunningham, a Woodland singer/songwriter and who plays a blend of acoustic rock and infectious pop, and Sacramento singer/songwriter Justin Farren. A “Sammie” Award-winning acoustic guitarist, Justin has also been named “Best Musician in Sacramento” by Sacramento News and Review. Also appearing will be the bands; the Bottom Dwellers and the West Nile Ramblers.

The West Nile Ramblers play a wide variety of styles, from traditional string band music to western swing and bluegrass, playing both originals and well-known favorites. Brought together by a desire to play music as often as possible, The West Nile Ramblers bring years of experience and a depth of understanding to a smorgasbord of music styles. Based in the Davis/Woodland musical community Andy Lentz and Alex Roth (from Mad Cow String Band) join forces with Adam Hancock and Mark Eagleton (from the Bottom Dwellers) along with Bart van der Zeeuw (who has worked with the Bottom Dwellers, Family, and done studio work in L.A. and with Belgian rock band K’s Choice), to play hard-driving and intricate Western Swing and Country music.

The Bottom Dwellers began performing together in Woodland in 2003. Adam Hancock previously with the Giblet Dribblers in San Francisco, Chris Eynon and Mark Eagleton who had played together with the Sacramento band, The Cripes, and Ivan Sohrakoff from 5 Tons of Rhythm met and discovered that they lived within blocks of each other and soon the Bottom Dwellers were born in Mark’s garage. The Bottom Dwellers have played with such bands as, The Derailers from Austin, TX and I See Hawks from L..A. In 2007, they won “Oustanding Bluegrass/Country Band” in the Sacramento News and Reviews readers poll, Sammie Awards. The Bottom Dwellers have just released their second cd of original material titled “Think I Need a Drink” which follows their 2006 release “Twang Americana”. In addition to their original brand of Americana, they cover a wide spectrum of favorites by the likes of Merle Haggard, Willie Nelson, Dave Dudley, Commander Cody, and many, many more.

Funds raised by the Opera House benefit concert will be used to plant more shade trees in downtown Woodland to provide beauty and to help clean the air, thus reducing Woodland's carbon footprint. With the passage of Assembly Bill 32, California has set a goal of reducing its green house emissions to 1990 levels by 2020, a reduction of about 25%, to counter global warming trends. Tree planting is a proven method to help achieve this goal.

Tickets are $15 each and may be purchased at the Opera House box office at 530-666-9617. Click the title of this story to access the Woodland Opera House site and to view Upcoming Concerts.
