Welcome to downtown Woodland. A very smart move. This should be just the shot-in-the-arm we need.

I agree.

I found this ironic... check out the new story above. The city already has plans to move the market to Dog Gone Alley - or bring in a competitor.

This is exciting. Thanks for posting. I may do a piece on my blog too! It's important to buy local and support our farmers!

I wonder if they were kicked out of the mall? Something must have happened to convince them to move. Another mystery...

I am not sure how this will work. Are they going to do a bumb sweep first, then check the local sleepers to see if they are sex offenders so we can bring our children? They should have gone to John Ferns Park or the space between The Democrat and Second.

3:41, No mystery here. They have been waiting for a non-paved space. Our downtown is a more logical space than the privately owned, hot, parking lot of the Mall. Where would you prefer to bring your family?

8:01, Ferns park is not in a business district. The bums and other bad people would have been able to visit these other locations as well. I think the bums would move from Freeman, they don't like crouds. We have attended other functions at Freeman. We have never had any problems there. We need more venues downtown, as this is the heart of the City.

Well the Mall was a terrible spot for a farmers market. Hopefully this will help it grow a little.

10:04 AM...Sorry, but there is a mystery here. For years a variety of people have tried to persuade them to move downtown and they wouldn't budge, so there is more to this story than a "non-paved space." Much more.
For those of us with longer memories we remember when the Farmer's Market was in Freeman Park. That is where it started. Kinda ironic, don't 'cha think?

6:03 PM,
The folks who own the Market are NOT the same owners as before. The new folks have never been in the downtown. The current owners have tried for over three years to get downtown.

Maybe that will clear any confusion you have.

Another suggestion might be to ask them the next time you go to the market in its new location. They are very nice people, and I'm sure there is no mystery here.

The reason it took so long is because of the City:)

Nuff said.

1.) There are no "owners" of the Farmer's Market. Perhaps you're referring to the folks who coordinate it?
2.) No one said the "new folks" have been downtown. It said the Farmer's Mkt. in Woodland started at Freeman's Park. Later it even had a stint in Heritage Plaza.
3.) I wonder about the impetus for the move. Yes, I could go ask them but was asking if anyone had the skinny. It's no reflection on the current managers to ask questions.
4.) The "City" had nothing to do with delaying their move to downtown. That was a choice exercised over a number of years by the those who participated in the Farmer's Mkt. Numerous parties tried to convince them to come back downtown and they steadfastly refused because:

1.) The felt they had higher visibility on Gibson.
2.) Their customers knew where to find them.
3. The mall accommodated their needs.

These are all rational, reasonable reasons to stay put. Don't scapegoat the City by making them the fall guy here.

It's a good thing that the Farmer's Mkt. is coming BACK downtown. It's a good thing for all of us.

Move on.

I'm glad it will be downtown, too. It would also be nice if the Chili Cook-off returned to Freeman Park.

My husband works with one of the organizers who said they will be able to sell food at their new location. A contractual agreement with the food vendors at the mall prevented them from doing so at the mall location. There have been worries about parking in the past about downtown Farmer's Markets in Woodland. I think the move to the park will be great...much more pleasant experience

What a great informative comment. Thank you! I knew there was more to the story than was initially reflected in some of these comments. I wish them well in their new location. Many thanks to you.

See folks? A little info goes a long way!
