Woodland gasoline prices among lowest in area

As oil reached $119.90 a barrel on Tuesday - when the U.S. dollar touched an all-time low of $1.6018 to the euro - Woodlanders are undoubtedly concerned about how far a buck will go when buying gas.

Well... according to SactoGasPrices.com, our east side stations are the lowest around. At the time of this writing, the Woodland Costco (3.69) and the Arco on Rd. 102 (3.71) top the Sacramento area list along with the Folsom Costco (3.71) and an EZ Stop in Rancho Cordova (3.72).

Click the title of this story to see a comparative chart of Woodland gas stations.

The Web site is looking for members to report prices. The following is from SactoGasPrices.com:

Urgent! Gas Prices Are Out of Control
Gas prices are expected to reach record highs in the next few months

SactoGasPrices.com is a volunteer organization where consumers work together to fight high gas prices. The website works by having consumers, like you, report local gas prices so that everyone can avoid high priced gas and save money at the pump.

SactoGasPrices.com is a grass-roots community effort to lower gas prices. In a typical city, gas prices vary by about 30-50 cents per gallon in the US (10-15c/L in Canada). If everyone buys gas at the lower priced stations, it puts pressure on the higher priced stations to lower their gas prices since their sales will decrease. In effect, it makes gas stations more competitive.

All gas prices on SactoGasPrices.com are reported to the website by ordinary people. By combining the efforts of 700,000 national members (and growing), it makes it easier to find the cheapest gas prices. Much of the time, you can save 15 cents per gallon (7c/L in Canada) without having to drive for 20 miles.

You have it very cheap still.

Consider this:

1gallon = 3.785liters

1USdollar = .9468Australiandollar

gas here is $1.45/liter

so $1.45 x 3.785 = $5.49 per gallon in Aust dollars

$5.49 x .9468 = converts to US$

= $5.18 US$ per gallon

Where would you rather buy your gas?

Whats the average mpg for cars in Australia ?

I can't tell you the average for all cars, just the one that I drive. I have a Mitshubishi Magna, if you don't know the car - think Ford Taurus.

I roughly get 470Kilometers to 63 liters of gas.

So -

1Km is .621mile
470Km x .621 = 292miles

1liter is .264gallon
63liters x .264 = 16.6gallons

292miles/16.6gallons = 17.6mpg

I still think you have it cheaper. Basically you could say that it would cost me $5.18 to drive from Woodland to Sacramento and another $5.18 to get back.

Here are the problems we're facing today:

weak dollar:

The gov't uses the weak dollar to show that the trade deficit is smaller. Corporations use the weak dollar to "inflate" their earnings. Joe Schmoe sees gas prices skyrocket due to crude reaching record prices due to the weak dollar.

inflation:

The Fed drops interest rates, which leads to a weaker dollar, and subsequently, inflation. Lowered interest rates have helped only the banks b/c the spread they create is large (ie take low interest rate loans and loan them to us at a much higher rate). Fed fund rate down 3pts yoy, but other short term loans they give barely moved. To "allow" the Fed to cut rates, the gov't reported little or no inflation through 2007. However, add back food and gas prices to the equation, and inflation is high.

It's not a matter of being more "green" to keep gas prices from further rising, or just whining about oil companies. It's a matter of all of us to stop worrying about who got eliminated this week on American Idol and open our eyes to what those we elected into office and doing.
